El Paraiso, Copan Honduras
Filter Project
El Paraiso, Copan, Hondruas is where this ministry began. We use El Paraiso as a
cental location. A place to live and work, building the filters so we can then carry
them to the surrounding villages. When we started this pure water project, we choose
two villages to work in; Joconalis and Manguito. We first had a town meeting with
the people of the villages to present the project and to see if they were interested.
The were excited about finally having pure water that they could not wait to start.
During the second meeting we had with the people we were able to share the gospel
message using the story of Jesus and the woman at the well.
We then took down the names of people who were interested in having a filter and
would be willing to take some time to help us with the installation as well as learn
about the importance of clean water and how to care for the filter. We have also
decided that if there were 2, 3, or sometimes 4 houses on the same lot, it would
be better to put just one filter in a central location.
With ever filter we install we ask that the people who will be drinking from it
will be there. It is important that they know what the filter is, how it works,
and how to take care of it. It also gives us an opportunity to be able to pray over
the filters and the families that will benefit from them.
We have completed installing filters in Joconalis and Manguito bringing pure water
to over 1000 people. With the success of these first two villages and the positive
response of the people we have decided to continue this project in other villages
as well as individual houses. We always have a 2 town meetings before we begin installing
filters to make sure the people are interested in the project, and it also gives
us the opportunity to share the Gospel of Christ.
